Buffalo Boy

Eliza Cummings vs Neneh Cherry “Buffalo Stance”
House of Holland Pre-spring 12
Directed by Mariano Vivanco

Despite being just a tiny, wee thing in the 1980s, Henry Holland has made a career filled with homages to the Decade Taste Forgot. (Miss Prescott witnessed it in all its fluoro-glow glory, and thus is certified to make such a call.)

Having said that, he has always managed to mine the best of the ’80s, launching a career with slogan tees à la Katherine Hamnett, although his were a lot less political (“Worldwide Nuclear Ban Now”) and a lot more pop (“I’ll Tell You Who’s Boss, Kate Moss”).

This time around, Mr Holland has paid homage to Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo Stance” with the fashion film for his first cruise collection.

Starring model gal-pal Eliza Cummings doing her best lip-synching to the tune, and created as a direct nod to Cherry’s original music video, the film features the House of Holland’s Pre-Spring 2011 collection. Inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead, the collection includes bold Mexicana stripes and skeleton bodysuits.

This is one of my current favourite fashion shorts—it’s got great variety of fashion, good concept, amazing execution: tick, tick, tick. I’m sure even Neneh would approve.
